A British Car That Doesn’t Leak?

Mike – Please share this with John and Forest.  I finished putting my TD back together yesterday and it started on the first rotation after I built up oil pressure and installed the spark plugs,  Today I tuned it and it runs better than it ever has in the seven years I’ve owned it.  Somethings is wrong, though – it doesn’t leak!  I was careful putting it together, but it isn’t even dripping at the rear main bearing.  Wow!  You guys are good.  The roller lifter cam makes a difference.  It is too early to do anything but a careful break-in, but I sense I have far more horsepower than I used to and the engine is smooth.  I also found the problem of my persistent miss from last year because it came back this year.  One of the carburetor clamps on the cross rod was loose so only one carburetor, the rear, was actually doing anything but idling.  That’ll mess up even the best mixture adjustment.  Here are two pictures – one of my installing the engine and gearbox, and the finished car.  My self-rebuilt gearbox needs some breaking in.  The howl in first gear is gone and it shifts into third better than ever.  Second gear, however, seems tight but in ten miles it has already loosened up a little.  With some use it should be fine.  Next week I take it back to the body shop to touch up the few scratches I inflicted putting it together, and then it will be buffed out, which was never done.  Huzzah, and thank you guys for your hep. – Ray Costa
