Q & A: Gearbox Whine

My 72 MGB gearbox whines with engine idling and out of gear, the noise goes away if I push the clutch pedal in or if I roll the car forward or back wards about a foot.
What could it be ?
I want to tell you that the swishing you hear is common and normal. When the clutch is engaged (idling in neutral), then the laygear is spinning in the gearbox and throwing a lot of oil all over. You could change the oil -- use Castrol 20W/50. Y... read more
